5 Star Makeover: Pasta Roundup

This month's 5 Star Makeover challenge was to create pasta dishes with a unique twist. I was thrilled to have so many of my foodie friends participate! Please enjoy all of the wonderful pasta creations.


ARTICHOKE PASTA by Biz, Biggest Diabetic Loser.



In this wonderful pasta dish, the artichoke hearts are incorporated right into the pasta dough!



BAKED TURKEY N BROCCOLI-RABE MEATBALLS WITH LINGUINE by Cool Lassi(e), Pan Gravy Kadai Curry.



The cheese and the broccoli rabe in the meatballs act as flavor and texture enhancers and are delicious together with linguine.



BEEF SHOULDER PIEROGI by Joanne, Eats Well With Others.



The chive-infused dough resulted a delicious, buttery pierogi with fantastic beef shoulder filling.



CHICKEN PESTO PASTA WITH PINE NUTS & SPINACH by Lisa, Bakes, Cakes, and Makes.



This lovely pesto pasta dish is easy to make, quick and delicious.



CHOCOLATE PASTA WITH LIGHT CREAM SAUCE AND CHILES by Lauren, Healthy. Delicious.



The chocolatey aroma of this pasta is intense without being overpowering, and pairs perfectly with the light cream sauce and the heat of the red chile peppers.



COCOA N SAFFRON VERMICELLI PUDDING by Cool Lassi(e), Pan Gravy Kadai Curry.



A milk based pudding/payasam flavored decadently with cocoa, saffron threads, garnished with dry fruits plus nuts.

GARLIC PORCINI MUSHROOM PASTA by MomGateway.



A jazzed up version of olive oil-garlic pasta with terrific flavors of porcini mushrooms, lemon juice, and fresh cilantro.



HAKKA NOODLES by Soma, eCurry.



These noodles are quickly stir fried with a spicy “Indian Chinese” flavored sauce and crunchy vegetables.

Deb incorporates wonderful local Hawaiian specialties into this delicious fusion pasta dish!



KRITHARAKI ME FAKES KAI PASTO by Ivy, Kopiaste.



A make over of the classic Cypriot dish "fakes moudzentra", a staple lentil dish which is cooked with brown lentils and rice and then caramelized onions, called “tiganissi” are mixed in. Ivy’s version uses orzo instead of rice.



KRITHAROTTO by Tobias, tobias cooks!.



This fabulous risotto without rice uses the Greek pasta Kritharaki that is shaped like a rice corn, also known as Orzo.



LASAGNA SHRIMP FLORENTINE by Claudia, What’s Cookin’ Italian Style Cuisine.



Shrimp, Spinach, Ricotta in a Lasagna all surrounded in a delicate tomato and white wine sauce.



LINGUINI CON BACON by Lazaro, Lazaro Cooks!.



This pasta creation is inspired by Linguini Carbonara. Lazaro’s version is comprised of three distinct levels of flavors: the white wine pasta, the egg & cheese sauce and the caramelized bacon. The creamy egg sauce mixed with the smoky caramelized bacon is terrific.



MACARONI AND CHEESE WITH A GREEK TWIST by Maria, Kali Orexi.



Terrific Mediterranean flavors with Greek and Italian cheeses, and a unique topping with Greek rusks, Kalamata olives, capers, grated cheese, parsley and olive oil.



MOREL FETTUCCINE WITH SPINACH RIBBONS AND CRISPY SHALLOTS by Natasha, 5 Star Foodie.



Homemade fettuccine with morel powder, butter sauteed morels, and creamy morel sauce.



OKRA AND CALAMARI FARFALLE by Biren, Roti n Rice.



This pretty tri-color bowtie pasta is served with calamari and okra which provided a great combination of textures, and the spicy and tangy sauce made the dish very appetizing.



OKRA AND CHICKEN SPAGHETTI by Olive, Latest Recipes.



This pasta dish is inspired by aglio e olio and pesto, and the addition of okra is fantastic.



PASTA IN TOMATO-CHICKEN CURRY SAUCE by Tigerfish, Teczcape - An Escape to Food.



A delicious homey pasta dish with a unique curry sauce.



PASTA PIZZA WITH MINCED MEAT, SPINACH, MUSHROOMS N TOMATO by Cool Lassi(e), Pan Gravy Kadai Curry.



Combining pasta and pizza, this "pasta pizza" with minced meat, spinach, mushrooms and tomato is excellent!



PASTA PRIMAVERA WITH SMOKED GOUDA by Scott, Fight the Fat Foodie.



Scott’s version of Pasta Primavera combines a little bit of heat from red pepper flakes with fresh vegetables, herbs and the smokey flavor of a smoked Gouda cheese.



PASTA SO GOOD YOU MIGHT CHOKE by Holly, My Life Through Food.



Delicious whole wheat spaghetti with salami, kalamata olives, and anchovy paste.



PASTA WITH CARAMELIZED LEEKS AND FETA CREAM SAUCE by Zoe.



"A perfectly creamy cream-less pasta dish!" The smokey flavor of the caramelized leeks and the creamy feta is a wonderful combination.

This creamy sauce with matcha green tea is very unique and excellent with pumpkin ravioli.



SALAMI, BLACK OLIVE AND RICOTTA PASTA by Reeni, Cinnamon Spice & Everything Nice.



Reeni says, "Salami and black olives are finger foods for me but when you add them to the ultimate comfort food - pasta - something amazing happens."

This incredible Lebanese-style pasta with minced lamb and kashkaval cheese encased in phyllo.

The incorporation of pasta into the quiche filling is very creative and just lovely with roasted asparagus.



STEAK AND SPINACH PENNE by Nour, Practical Nutrition.



A great combination of pasta, juicy tender tenderloin steak, spinach, pine nuts and blue cheese.



TORTELLINI WITH BACON AND PEAS by Ann, A Simple Kitchen.



Delicious tortellini with bacon, peas, and creamy tomato sauce.



TWO TOMATO PASTA WITH SPICY SHRIMP by Greg, Sippity Sup.



This is one of Greg’s famous "default pastas", which requires you to get creative with pasta using whatever you have on hand. The unusual aspect of this dish is the spicy shrimp couple with classic tomato basil!



VEGETABLE PENNE WITH BROCCOLI SAUCE by Anncoo, Anncoo’s Hobby.



This colorful vegetable pasta is served with prawns, bacon and healthy broccoli sauce.



VEGGIE ORZO PASTA WITH SMOKED SCALLOPS by Jenn, Bread + Butter.



A risotto like dish using orzo pasta with smoked scallops and vegetables.



WALKERS SHORTBREAD COOKIES, GREAT FOR MAKING MEATBALLS by Brad, Eatnlisten.com.



Brad substitutes crushed Walkers buttery shortbread cookies for breadcrumbs in meatballs and serves them with luscious caraway spiced sour cream over Kluski noodles.

The three special secret ingredients - the Riesling the pasta, St. Andre Triple Crème in the sauce and caramelized bacon - really brought his pasta dish to a whole new level. This was a truly inspiring creation! Congratulations, Lazaro!
